“That’s what Christmas is all about Charlie Brown.” (Linus – Charlie Brown Christmas Special)
As a little boy growing up, A Charlie Brown Christmas was my favorite. When I was a boy, my mom and I would search through the TV Guide to see when it was on so we would not miss it. Today, we can just put in the DVD and watch it anytime we want – which is often during the Christmas Season. The part that caught my attention long before I was a Christian was when Linus responded to the question asked by Charlie Brown, “Isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?” Here is the response from Linus, right out of Sacred Scripture:
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
Luke 2:8-14 KJV
And with that being said, Linus picks up his blanket and shuffles off-stage. Why? Because he said it all. That is what Christmas is all about – the Christ Child. Jesus is the Reason for the Season. This is the greatest Christmas present the world has ever been given. May we rejoice in having received this great Gift by grace through faith, and may we respond by sharing this great Gift with others because that’s what Christmas is all about.
Tomorrow is Christmas Day – may yours be filled with the presence and power of Christ.
